Halloween Week - Pumpkin Decorating

This week at work we decorated pumpkins to go out to our sites where the seniors we serve could enjoy them. Of course I was super enthusiastic again, because this was a sanctioned work crafting moment. So I downloaded several templates from Better Homes and Gardens (via Jess at How About Orange). I carefully cut them out with the exacto knife I brought from home (I don't know how an office can survive without one but we didn't have one). The office manager had brought in lots of acrylic paints so we were off and running. All I wanted to do were silhouettes, but a few others joined me and we created the pumpkins above. Overall a very nice way to waste about 2 hours at work.

Halloween Week - Pumpkin Pie Bakeoff

Half of my light pumpkin pie

Last week at my office we had a pumpkin pie bakeoff. I was super excited about it and decided to make 2 different pies, both light. I thought I would definitely place in the contest and then post the recipes here but alas, my pies turned out to be stinkers. I even had to throw out half of one of my small pieces because it was too sour and spiced all at the same time. That was the recipe that I had not tried before. The other recipe, shown here, which was more traditional was not awful, but not nearly as good as the winning pie with a traditional recipe and home made crust. I should have made the WIlliams-Sonoma pumpkin cheesecake. Oh well, there's always next year.

I'm dying to make this recipe

For pumpkin cheesecake from Williams Sonoma. I have all the ingredients but no one to make it for, and my Points allowance doesn't allow it to be one serving all for me. Maybe I'll make it as a second entry in the office pumpkin pie baking contest on Friday.

First Kind of Lame Post

I'm starting this blog, at work actually, because work is really just not fulfilling and I am hoping that this can be a place where I round up all my creativity. When Twitter and Facebook, shopping online and bidding on ebay plus all sorts of personal email aren't enough to keep you busy at work it's time to make it better, ammeliorer, my favorite French verb. Mainly because it sounds funny, but mostly because it means to improve or make better.
